July 2010

07/15 - CAN-DO.

I watched an interview with Eric Klein (CAN-DO.ORG) by Tony Harris on CNN about the six-month-old Haitian earthquake and lack of support. I'm so damn pissed with the system(world-wide) and their frigging red tape! I'm going to make another donation, but I'm seriously thinking about volunteering my time and help. Maybe September for a couple weeks? Need to do some soul-searching and do an internet look-see into this. My gut says go, do what I can for the Haitians. The people are in serious need. Yeah, I know. We have troubles here in the US. Nothing like what's going on over there. The population needs food, clothing, shelter, aid workers, means to distribute goods, etc, etc, etc. So...If any of you have a few extra dollars, make an aid donation to your choice of organizations. It's the right thing to do.

07/09 - Perogative.

I changed my mind about Blind Heat's chapters, so I took them down. That's my perogative. *grin* If you happened to read them, fine. If not, oh well. Maybe later I'll put them back up. Actually, I'm thinking about something new and interesting.

That is, reformatting Blind Heat for e-readers. How does that sound? Sales price: dirt-frigging cheap. This way, I'd get a dime or two for my hard-earned work. A number of authors have done it. Why shouldn't other published and unpublished authors do the same? There's a lot of good reading material, fiction and nonfiction, out there that will never reach the printed page. Not everybody can get an agent or a publisher for their projects.

On the flip side, not everybody owns an e-reader. I don't. Yet. Currently, I'm perusing online reviews of the competition between makers. E-readers are certainly cute, lightweight, and getting cheaper. Owning one will keep me from carrying tons of books on vacation! I wonder how much e-readers will affect the publishing industry's future? Been lots of talk going on out there. Do you have a Kindle or Sony or any other e-reader?

07/08 - All right already!

The next 3 unedited chapters to Blind Heat are up on the left. Hope everyone had a great 4th. We did. Now we're planning our next trip (domestic) for the end of July and August. Obviously, we travel a lot. I love it.

June 2010

06/27 - Free Read Up.

I got the problem taken care of--finally. You can click on the numbers and read the first three chapters of Blind Heat. Let me know what you think!

06/26 - Worse.

Got a monstrous cold on top of fatigue. Blind Heat chapters will have to wait. There's a problem somewhere within the site cuz of my amateur programming.

06/25 - Fatigued.

Wow, what a great trip we had! I took well over 800 photos and need to go through them. I'll post some when I get things together, and I've recuperated. There's a 10-hour time change between here and there...26 hours to get home. Whew!

Good news and bad. Lots of comments on Blind Heat's excerpt. I'll respond to them as quickly as possible. They were like a bell curve. Some good, some okey-dokey, some folks didn't care too much for the story so far. C'est la vie! I don't know of any author's work that everyone loves their stories. Anyhow...I got my rejections. No biggy. So, I'll continue to post Blind Heat as a free read. Might take me a little while to get the site set up. Check back later today. I'll have the entire first three chapters up.

05/26 - So....

I'm gettin' out of town for a few weeks. Everything is quiet still. I'm doing as planned, posting character profiles and the story's beginning. Here's the title. BLIND HEAT. Smokin', huh? I started writing this story back in early 2008. Took a little time to finish due to other stuff going on, but the basics were there. My synopsis changed little, got meatier, and lots of work went into the story itself. It's a few steps above draft form, but not yet perfect--if that ever happens. I've queried a few agents since the beginning. Got no takers. Wah! Could it have been my query letter, or maybe I submitted too soon, a so-so partial? Who knows? Whether Blind Heat sells or not, I loves the story, the characters and all the hell I put them through on a daily basis. Fact. One part still makes me bawl my ass off. I just can't get through the scene without it turning me inside out.

Anyhow, click on this link Blind Heat (a PDF file). If you can't open it, you can download Acrobat Reader for free here. When I return from this exciting trip to Syria and Turkey, and there's no news, I'll post the rest of the chapter...and the next one...and the next...until I hit The End. If you feel up to commenting on the story (critiques are welcome!), drop me an email via the Contact Delta link above. Expect a response...later. I won't have any internet access. Nada. Zilch while gone.

05/06 - Impatience.

I really am the impatient type. Still waiting to hear from a couple publishers.

I have made a decision, though. If I'm unable to sell this story, I'm going to put it on my site as a free read, chapter by chapter. Why not? Times are rough (especially financially) for writers and readers these days. In fact, my interest in the writing process has slipped. Or tumbled into an abyss of my choosing. I no longer spend hours on end working in the craft, which makes it really iffy for a panster to move ahead. Most days, I don't turn the computer on because I'm away from it. Does that bother me? Nope. I'm really enjoying the relaxation. On the flip side, I've been sounding wishy-washy the last few months. Or it could be just plain bitchiness. But that's my perogative. =) I'm so looking forward to the trip to Syria and Turkey. Getting ready to go requires most of my attention.
